Courtney
A. Lynch, M.A., LPCC, RPT (Registered Play Therapist)
I have known my whole life that helping people is what I want to do. When I was a young girl I wanted to travel to Africa and help people there who were hurting. As I grew older my life took a few twists and turns through my own mother’s death, rebellious teenage years and the onset of an eating disorder. It was through these struggles that I came into a relationship with Christ and realized through my weaknesses he has made me strong. In college I rediscovered my desire to help others, and I traveled to several different countries through missions. I worked with college students and children to help them know Christ and his healing power. I came back to the United States with a desire to continue working with hurting children. It was through this work that I began to entertain the idea of obtaining my counseling degree.
I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of New Mexico and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary. I am currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I specialize in play therapy with children, working with adolescents and eating disorders.
Working with children and young people is a desire of mine because it is during this time in our lives that we experience profound change, and develop permanent habits, personality and behaviors. My hearts desire is to work with children and teenagers to help them grow into healthy adults – emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.
According to Courtney children can learn new coping mechanisms, experience healing and find an emotional outlet through play therapy. “Children’s play can enable us to see what is going on in the inner world of the child. Their fears, hurts, joys and life experiences are revealed to us in their own special way of playing, drawing and storytelling.”
